Helmed by former Dead Space developer Glen Schofield, The Callisto Protocol follows protagonist Jacob Lee’s attempt to escape the mutant-infested Black Iron prison colony on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. A spiritual successor to the sci-fi horror series, The Callisto Protocol attempt to bring Dead Space’s visceral combat and gruesome body horror to a new setting this December.

The Callisto Protocol’s new “The Truth of Black Iron” trailer teases some of the mysteries of the upcoming game. This includes questions about the fate of Callisto’s previous colony, which disappeared sometime before the Black Iron prison’s construction. It’s also the first trailer to prominently feature Lee’s cellmate Danny Nakamura, voiced by The Boys’ Karen Fukuhara. While Lee seems mainly concerned with escaping Callisto, Nakamura comes across as much more invested in the search for answers. She seems to be the primary force pushing Lee to unravel the conspiracy behind the alien mutagen that transformed Black Iron’s inmates into The Callisto Protocol’s horrific Biophages.

Developers confirmed Fukuhara’s role as Danny Nakamura in The Callisto Protocol some time ago. However, fans haven’t seen anything of the character until the game’s latest trailer earlier today. The Callisto Protocol’s previous trailers focused almost exclusively on protagonist Jacob Lee and Black Iron’s sinister and mysterious Warden, who seems to be the game’s primary antagonist. Today’s trailer not only reveals Nakamura’s appearance but also appears to confirm that she will have a very significant role in the upcoming game.

The Callisto Protocol releases on December 2 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
